ALMOST - the German Boarder - Altenberg -Prague Chez Republic - Photo Gallery

Our trip to Prague started on Friday February 25th, 2005. We left driving from Babelsberg Germany and drove to the Lion where we said good by to Etienne. We then drove to the German CZ boarder which was about 2.5 hr drive. At the boarder we were detained and almost held. The car we were driving was a rental from Hertz which was a BMW station wagon with a state of the art navigation GPS system. We had programmed our destination into the computer and were going to be in Prague at 20 Republica in about 1 hr. NOT! The German police held us at the car was banned from entering Eastern Europe. After much discussion and being held by the German police for 2.5 hrs. it was dark and they had released us but turned us back into Germany. We drove to Altenberg a ski village near the boarder where Vanette finally found us a hotel. We were tired, hungary and there was snow and ice everywhere. Trying to dirve into the hotel the BMW got stuck spinning and sliding. Finally after getting aobut 5 men form the lodge we got into a parking space and carried out bags up 3 flights. We ate dinner about 9pm and went to sleep. The next morning Saturday Feb. 26th we got up ate breakfast and drove back into Germany where we change our BMW for a Ford at the Dresten Airport. This took hours and we finally drove back through the mountains for the 3rd time to finally be accepted by the German Polica to cross into CZ. We arrived at the apartment in Praga 1 the Old Town at about 4pm. Vanette called Martin who was out of town and had to get a man that works for him to come help. We unloaded the car up another three flights to the apartment..... Vanette parked the car in a nearby shopping mall space and returned to the apartment frozen.
